Projects
Detached House in Águeda

Location
Águeda
Portugal
This project is located on a steep slope, with access through the living room with double height level. The inexistence of pillars on the valley frontage was the condition that brought major challenge to the structure.

Developer: Cliente Particular
Year: 2006
Building Area:
850 m2

With a total construction area of 850 m2, the conception of the house has the following relevant aspects:

1 – Living Room – Double height (5,60m); -  Inexistent pillars on the valley frontage; - Garden  over the slab of the console covering with 11 m of span.

2 – Office – a “box” independent from the remaining elements of the construction; - located between the ground floor and the 1st floor, in the upper right corner of the living room volume.

To solve these challenges, we designed a structure similar to a stand covering in concrete, and chose, after geotechnical studies, shallow foundations and drilled shafts.

We pondered the use of prestressed in the consoles, but it was possible throughout a general optimization, to control, using conventional methods, the deformation, avoiding damage in the frames and glass of the valley frontage.

The office slab, with a rigid form, was tied to the console covering through cantilevers. We established some connections to external rigid elements to obtain additional bracing.
