The Venerável Ordem Terceira de São Francisco, concerned with the present needs and social integration of the elderly, decided to invest in a reception centre, to be built on an available Hospital terrain. The building is located right in the historic centre of Porto, surrounded by buildings with granite masonry structure. The profitability of the available area led to the need to build the new project up to the terrain limits and to restrain the nearby structures with superior quota. We chose restraint solutions Berlin and Munique type in the confining areas with nearby buildings and with the street respectively. We used prestressed ground anchors sealed with “Granito do Porto” and that develop in one, two or three levels, according to the restraint height. There was also the need to repave some of the existing walls, where we chose to do parallel lines of micropiles in each side of the wall, hold together by reinforced concrete beams, compressed against the masonry by prestressed bars.
