This project consists in a school designed to the theoretical and practical teach of aquaculture techniques, with boarding school facilities for 200 students, in Malange. It was necessary to predict two students’ residences (each one for 100 students) and sports areas (football and basketball fields, tennis court and changing room).
The intervention area has 8 ha, but the construction area has 3 800 m2 for the school and 6 880 m2 for the residences; we created a strategy that effectively articulated the school, the external ponds for aquaculture, the students’ residences and the sports area.
At the school and residence, we designed a covering that integrated different spaces and wings and that created a shade and fresh area for activities and interior/exterior communication, which could soften the roughness of the climate.
The school building consists of 5 wings: Wing A – with 2 floors, lodging laboratories, support rooms, technical areas with access to the exterior and to the ponds, teaching offices and computing department; Wing B – with cafeteria areas, canteen, kitchen and sanitary areas; Wing C – designed for the library, in 2 floors with a central area for reference and study and another for work/study offices, bookstore and copy room; Wing D – designed for the 130 seat auditorium, reserved for theoretical classes and public presentations; this area is complemented by a projection and interpretation cabin; Wing E – with 2 floors designed for administrative areas, classrooms and sanitary areas.
Each residence consists of 4 wings in propeller form around the large central space, with ventilation and shade created by the integrating covering. Each wing has 2 floors designed for rooms and support equipment (kitchen, laundry, reception desk, study rooms, sanitary areas and garbage treatment).
Each residence building has 48 double rooms, 4 single rooms for disabled people and 1 room to support the reception desk. The internal and external ponds are equipped and built under the most recent methods, making possible to replicate in school all the practical processes of aquaculture, as well as allowing the research.
