To give to old Teatro Virgínia the infrastructures that are essential to the present scenic, safety and comfort demands, the project took into consideration again the whole spatial organization of the theatre, respecting the dimension and conception of the frontage of the original project. However, it was necessary to amplify substantially the stage, height and depth, and to create new areas for dressing rooms, artist’s entrance, administration and fire fighting infrastructures.
To make the shows economically viable, we increased the number of seats, achieving a 638 people capacity.
We reinforced the metallic structure of the covering to allow the suspension of many HVAC conduits and the placement of proscenium and 60º suspensions.
The amplification of the stage depth, in all width, maintaining the posterior wall, starting from the + 4,60m quota, as well as the reinforcement of the grid required by the introduction of motorized suspensions and the raise of the number of counterweight suspensions, were the most fascinating challenges of the project.
